II. Be! 02:19

“Binary Suite” is percussionist/composer Brian Shankar Adler's response to the prediction that humans and machines will soon merge and become one. Written in 2015 and inspired by chance processes, it is a meditation in four movements based on his existential pondering (see text below).

Am I a robot or an ape?
I am. / U R

Or a zombie?

The secrets lie in the code.

The above text was converted into binary code. The "1"s and "0"s were assigned to sounds and silences, becoming the compositional material that developed into "Binary Suite."
